Alla Prima refers to a method by which the artist applies each stroke of paint to the canvas with the intention of letting it stand in the picture as part of the final statement. Alla Prima is about being open and immediate. Kindergartners are Alla Prima artists. They create without corrections. As a recording artist, I aspire for that kind of immediacy.
When I finished the recordings for my debut release "Postcards From Kindergarten, Volume 1", I wanted to get some kindergarten art to accompany the music. I reached out to my local neighborhood kindergarten teachers, Catalina Frail, Venessa McMahon and Briana Russo at Burr School in Auburndale, to ask if their students might be interested in contributing original artwork.
The kids said, "yes" and they generously provided me with more than sixty original works of art. The Gallery below features some of their creations. Please come back to visit the Postcards from Kindergarten Art Gallery as I will continue to update the collection from time to time.
